Update 2.5 is out now with an Edgerunners 2 mission and changes that give players more reasons to return to Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 received a free update this Thursday, October 22, adding dual-wielding, console mods and a mission tied to the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. CD Projekt RED confirmed the release on its official website. Called the Edgerunners 2 Update, or version 2.5, the package uses the anime’s debut as an opportunity to expand the game’s combat and customization options, too.
For anyone coming to the game through the anime, Cyberpunk 2077 is an action RPG: you play as V, a mercenary in Night City, choosing skills, equipment and ways to tackle missions. Edgerunners 2 tells another story in the same universe. The production from CDPR and studio TRIGGER premiered on Netflix on October 20, with ten episodes and a new cast of characters.
Mods from the menu, with clear limits
The most interesting addition for consoles is support for mods, modifications created by the community. Integration with the mod.io platform lets players browse and install a selection of them from the game’s own menu. That makes it easier to go from wanting to try content made by other players to actually getting it up and running.
Selection is the key word: the announcement does not automatically make the entire existing PC mod catalog available. The range should grow over time. Another point to watch is that modded saves cannot unlock achievements and trophies on consoles. Players who collect those rewards need to weigh that choice before modifying the experience.
More choices for V
In combat, the Double Trouble skill lets players wield two Power pistols or two Power revolvers, with complementary skills. It is a change that could appeal even to people who have never watched the anime: in a game built around combining equipment and skills, a new way to fight provides a concrete reason to try another build.
Customization also extends to arm implants, known as cyberware. New specialists called Glamdocs offer looks and colors for this equipment. On consoles, meanwhile, the FOV setting lets players adjust the field of view, or how much of the surroundings appears on screen. These are different kinds of changes, but both give players more control over how they see and play Night City.
The connection to the series comes through Clampdown, a mission set before the events of Edgerunners 2. It includes a set of equipment inspired by King. Access requires completing The Heist and two gigs for Wakako. A new radio station also brings music from Edgerunners to journeys around the city.
Thursday’s release covers PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Mac. On Mac, the detailed notes list Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store; Mac App Store availability has not been separately confirmed. Switch 2 will receive the update later, with no exact date yet. The content arrives as a free update to the game.
The anime may tempt players back, but the update offers reasons to stay after that initial excitement fades. Dual-wielding expands combat choices; mods could keep the discoveries coming for longer. The scale of that second benefit will depend on the catalog actually available. The new options offer good reasons to revisit Night City, but how well mods work and how balanced dual-wielding is still need hands-on assessment.
